Legendary singer-songwriter John Prine is to release his first album of all-new material in more than 13 years. Since the release of his self-titled debut album in 1971, his ability to convey the most complex of emotions and stories in the simplest fashion has been praised far and wide.
Prine has been best known in the past two decades for the work he's done with others, with the bar set by ‘In Spite of Ourselves’, the 1999 collection of casually profound duets recorded after successful treatment for cancer near his vocal cords. Though he’s remained prolific in the 21st Century, it’s been a while since we’ve gotten a full album of his own original material. Now, after a long gap since the last time he put out such a record, Prine has picked up his pen and guitar once again and is set to release a new project titled ‘The Tree Of Forgiveness’.
His new album is to be released via his label Oh Boy Records. Dave Cobb, current steward of RCA Studio A and renowned for his work with artists like Chris Stapleton, Amanda Shires, Jason Isbell and Sturgill Simpson, produced the album. It features contributions from Shires and Isbell, as well as Brandi Carlile. Many of the 10 songs are co-writes, with collaborators including Pat McLaughlin, Dan Auerbach, Roger Cook and Keith Sykes.
