2017 live album.
Royal Trux who comprise of keyboardist Jennifer Herrema and former Pussy Galore guitarist Neil Hagerty, carried out a post-modernist program of revisiting and deconstructing rock music, a program that encompassed countless quotations from the Rolling Stones, Captain Beefheart and Jimi Hendrix, as well as fueling them with the aesthetic excrements of the "no wave”.
Now they are back with a new live album. It’s called ‘Live”‘Platinum Tips + Ice Cream’ and it’s out via Drag City. Recorded at two shows in California and New York, it marks the band’s first release since their 2015 reunion. Jennifer Herrema said that she and Neil Hagerty hadn’t been in the same room together for 13 years previously.
‘Platinum Tips + Ice Cream’s’ twelve tracks span their entire catalogue and are presented in “new, live, unrehearsed” renditions, according to the press release. The songs were written over a span of time as wide as eagle’s wings but the recordings are new, live, unrehearsed and were presented in real time to a few thousand people in California and NYC. Performance art? Yes! But only because, unlike so many other aural ‘content providers’, Neil Hagerty and Jennifer Herrema are true artists writing their own futures into the present. This was, and will always be, Royal Trux.
