The third Argonaut album was recorded live over two days at Bally Studios by London's answer to Steve Albini - Dotan Cohen, The Sound Mechanic.
The band say: "We recorded brand new songs and definitive versions of some live favourites. The aim was to capture 'Argonaut Forever' at our most honest, energetic and exciting, with minimal overdubs and manipulation. We are so pleased with the result and feel that it captures the perfect Argonaut sound forever! Sticking to our guns - and possibly shooting ourselves in the foot - the album will not be available on the usual corporate platforms. We believe that music crafted independently with care, passion and integrity deserves to be made available in a way that helps keep these values intact."
'Argonaut Forever' will only be released as a hand finished CD limited to 100 numbered copies and only available through Keymailorder!
Having weathered the departure of their bass player in May 2015, Argonaut found themselves having to look for a new drummer that September when Rob quit finding himself unable to commit to the bands schedule. A new sticksman was found in the shape of ‘Omz’ a drum teacher who enabled the band to continue gigging. The band planned to record a series of EP’s and self release them throughout 2016 (they moved on from their label Criminal in 2015) with their new bassman Joules Parrott at the production helm. The songs would then form their next album.
Although a trio of tracks were released with videos in the autumn of 2016 and spring 2017, family life meant Joules decided to take a break from the production chair, and the band elected to have a rethink how to approach their next album. In May 2017, they booked two days at Bally Studios in London and barged their way through twelve songs with minimal overdubbing. It was recorded by engineer Dotan Cohen who then mixed the record and it was done; the complete antithesis to the first two records!
The album spits and growls and throws itself down the stairs the way the previous records didn’t. The band even chose to re-record four songs from those collections to create an invigorating mixture of the old and new. It’s their best one to date!
