Legendary Joseph Fidler Walsh has clocked up a stonkin’ 50 years in the music business. He originally made a name for himself as a solo artist with the hit “Rocky Mountain Way” off of ‘The Smoker You Drink, the Player You Get’ (1973), but by the release of his 1976 album ‘You Can't Argue with a Sick Mind’ he was tired of working alone and was looking for a band to join.
He found it in the Eagles, who had just lost their main guitarist Bernie Leadon to creative differences. Once on board, he helped the Eagles craft their most famous album ‘Hotel California’ which was released later that year. Adding a more rock-oriented edge to the Eagles in the place of Leadon's more country-flavored style, his contributions to the guitarwork of the title track and the famous riffs of Life in the Fast Lane are especially notable. Yet Walsh's tenure with the Eagles did not preclude him from releasing more work as a solo artist at the same time. He has also served as a member of the James Gang, Barnstorm, The Party Boys and Ringo Starr s All-Starr Band. He has been inducted into the Rock And Roll Hall Of Fame and named one of the Greatest Guitars Of All Time by Rolling Stone.
This 3 CD collection brings together a fine selection of live performances from Walsh while playing solo during the 1980s and 1990s. Recorded for FM radio broadcast, the first disc here features Joe's performance at The Reunion Theatre in Dallas, TX, on 10th July 1981, four months after the release of his ‘There Goes The Neighborhood ‘album. Disc two includes a selection of live recordings made for radio or TV transmission between 1981 and 1991, while this box set concludes with the great man's legendary 4th of July 1990 performance, played at The Fountain Valley Fiesta, Mile Square Park, Orange County, CA.
